Stay Longer in Thailand — Without the Stress
Visa Extension Types
30 days visa extension
One of the most common types of visa extensions in Thailand is the 30-day extension, which allows visitors to remain in the country for an additional month beyond their original permitted stay.
This option is often preferred over a “border run” because:
- You gain more days (30 full days instead of the 15 days typically granted at a land border crossing)
- It’s a smoother process if you have no plans to leave Thailand by air
This option is often preferred over a “border run” because:
- Entered Thailand on a 60-day Tourist Visa or a Single Entry Tourist Visa issued outside of Thailand
- Hold a 6-month Multiple Entry Tourist Visa or an alternative Multiple Entry Visa issued outside Thailand
- Arrived in Thailand with a visa exemption stamp or Visa on Arrival (usually valid for 30 days) granted at an airport upon entry

7-Day Visa Extension
While the 30-day visa extension is the most common, it’s not available to all passport holders or visa types. In such cases, a 7-day extension may be granted instead.
The 7-day visa extension is typically available for:
- Passport holders from: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Iran, Nigeria, Togo, or Uganda — only if they entered on a Single Entry Tourist Visa or Multiple Entry Tourist Visa
- Travelers who entered with a 15-day Visa on Arrival (often issued at land borders) — generally extended only for medical reasons
- Visitors who arrived with a 15-day visa waiver — also typically issued at land borders and generally extended only for medical purposesThis option is often preferred over a “border run” because:
